You may have come across the term maximalism recently, this is quite simply the opposite of minimalism.
Minimalism has dominated our interiors for several years and no more so than in the bathroom where a pared-back aesthetic resulted in an uncluttered, cool space. But all that is changing. Where minimalism favoured clean lines and a neutral palette, maximalism turns to excess, replacing the ‘less is more’ philosophy with a ‘more is more’ agenda.
How does this translate into bathroom design? Think decorative wallpaper, colourful tiles, brass or black taps instead of cool chrome, mixed materials such a wood and marble plus open shelving to display toiletries and ornaments.
