Unlacquered brass

Why choose unlacquered brass taps?

Brass taps and shower fittings have been popular for some time now. But it is particularly unlacquered brass that has caught the imagination of interior designers.

Unlacquered brass taps, shower fittings and towel radiators are not as shiny as the lacquered versions but they bring depth and character to a bathroom setting. Although readily associated with a more traditional bathroom - see our Tradition Brass range, they also work for an Urban Warehouse setting, see Acme, or even in a contemporary bathroom, see Axis.

If you are changing your taps to unlacquered brass you will also want to update your shower to brass and opt for matching accessories. Fortunately at Aston Matthews we offer this attractive finish across everything from taps to loo roll holders

To keep brass glossy and bright many manufacturers add a coat of lacquer. However this can scratch and peel in time and the brass underneath is often inferior quality. For un-lacquered brass fittings, the brass must be of good quality to start with as it is exposed.

If you want to keep your unlacquered brass in its original condition you can polish it regularly. However, the joy of this finish is that, if left alone, it develops a natural patina with use. This is why it is often referred to as living brass.

Unlacquered brass taps are manufactured from the finest quality brass, with no surface treatment and, as many interior designers have discovered, they bring warmth and style to any bathroom and, in time, develop a unique, individual character.
