Dispelling the cast iron myths

Cast iron baths have never been so popular - with baths taking centre stage not only in the bathroom, but increasingly featuring in the bedroom too. However there are a few popular myths regarding these baths that we would like to dispel.

  • It is sometimes implied that cast iron baths are not suitable for older houses. In Victorian times all baths were cast iron as it was the only material available and there is no record of one of these baths ever having fallen through the floor

  • It is a myth that the floor in the bathroom needs to be reinforced to accommodate a cast iron bath. A bath full of water and a bather is only the equivalent weight to four people. You would be happy for four people to stand in your bathroom without worrying that they would crash through the floor to the room below!

  • The myth that cast iron baths are too heavy has been largely encouraged by manufacturers of acrylic baths who wish to promote the merits of their own products

  • Cast iron baths have a high quality enamel interior which is far more resistant to scratching and staining than any acrylic bath

  • Aston Matthews stocks the largest selection of new cast iron baths in Britain from traditional designs, such as the Napoli on claw feet, to the contemporary Tivoli on wooden sleepers.
